Less Math, More Diversity Training Please. Emory University continues its struggles in figuring out how to balance the feelings of an offended group of students and faculty with the constitutional rights of its professors. As always, several people on their campus have jumped at the opportunity to guilt the administration into requiring diversity training for everyone. Yep, that includes you buddy. You may have never had a racist thought in your life but you still need some diversity training. ~ Tuesday, November 18, 2003
Black colleges tapping into N.J. "There's a resurgence of interest in the historically black colleges,' said Malcolm Bernard, a Hampton University graduate who started the black college fairs in New Jersey six years ago because he wanted to see New Jersey students become more aware of what the colleges had to offer. 'There is the history and culture and opportunities they offer... . ' Bernard said." But what about DIVERSITY? How much diversity will they get at a black college? Or does diversity only matter at places like U. of Michigan? ~ Monday, November 17, 2003
Awwwwwww Try this on for a heart-warming story. Tyrone Darden was 11 years old and didn't fully understand the pact he was entering into with David Robinson of the San Antonio Spurs, didn't comprehend what Robinson had just told parents assembled in the school auditorium — somethingabout college and money and help. ~ Wednesday, November 12, 2003
This post at Critical Mass should not be missed. And then read the entire article in the Emory student paper. Note how the chair of the President’s Commission on the Status of Minorities immediately suggests that 1) Emory is full of racists and 2) everyone on campus needs "diversity certification." and then in this issue of the Emory paper the "director of the Office of Multicultural Programs and Services" says “I see those as concrete examples that we need diversity training at the University for both students and faculty,” She said the University needs to use these incidents to show the need for training and political correctness in Emory’s curriculum. When Universities waste money on these kinds of administrative positions, then this is the nonsense that you're going to get. Of course this person sees racism everywhere and believes that every person on campus needs to be reprogrammed to think exactly as she sees fit. That's what she was hired to do! My employer is in the process of hiring its first "diversity" administrator. What are the odds that next year he or she will propose that all faculty have their brains reprogrammed? ~ Sunday, November 09, 2003
Chicago Chicago. Thanks for stopping by. I feel bad that I haven't written much lately. I've been in Chicago for a couple of days visiting some friends. Prior to going out of town I did see my new friend. Sorry for the lack of details. I meant for this blog to detail my dating life for at least one full calendar year. Lately I'm failing miserably at that goal. I hope to write more about some of what's happened over the last month before I forget it. |
