Plans for New Years? Oh yeah, big big plans this year. Actually, I am an anti-NewYears party person. A college girlfriend ruined NY's for me forever by putting pressure on me to have a great time at NewYears. It felt like prom for adults. You know, you have to have a good time that night or there's something wrong with you. Why? Anyway, I'm still out of town at my parents' home. Since breaking up with my girlfriend I have had a couple of dates. One is with a woman that I'll call Abby (name changed to protect the innocent). The Friday before I left town for the holidays she invited me to a party at her neighbor's home. That night, Abby indicated interest about getting together for NewYears and asked me when was I planning to come back to town. As noted above, I'm not a big fan of New Year's parties so I told her that I didn't know. I've called Abby a couple of times over the holidays and let her know that I would gladly drive back early if there was a party that she wanted to go to. [what a nice guy, huh? I guess what I was saying to her was that if she found a fun party I'd drive back early, otherwise, see you post-New Years---although I hope it didn't come out as bad as it sounds here]. I called Abby this morning at her work and she said that she had decided to go out with some work friends for New Years. That's good as I don't feel like making the long drive back. Yet, I'm sure that I will regret this when the clock strikes midnight and someone else is kissing Abby's beautiful lips. Me? I'll be hanging with the parents. And I think I may be getting sick. And it's raining. What an appropriate ending to a very strange year. Was the breakup messy? Actually, not too bad all things considered. Of course there are hurt feelings and plenty of blame to go around. But one of the nice things about breaking up at this age (37) is that you know it's not the end of the world. There are plenty of other wonderful women out there. I just have to make the effort to start meeting some of them. ~ Sunday, December 29, 2002
How was Christmas? I spent the holidays at my parents' house. For the first time in years my brother brought his family (wife and 3 kids) there as well. It was great to see them. His youngest daughter had a cold. Hopefully I didn't catch it. Inspiration. This blog was inspired by the first couple of blogs listed on the left. You should check them out. If you don't like those, you probably won't like this one. What the world needs now. Welcome to my new blog. I hope that you find the site to be entertaining. A couple of months ago my girlfriend of 3 1/2 years and I decided to go our separate ways. We'd been doing a long-distance relationship for a while and neither of us was willing/capable of moving to the other person's city. I couldn't move because of my job, she couldn't move because she loved her home city more than she loved me (Awww). Like any relationship, there were complications, but this blog is going to be looking forward, not backward. It's been a while since I've been in the dating world and this is the first time that I've been dating in the upper-30s! This blog will detail my plunge into the dating pool. | |
